What makes a Codex pet animation look smooth?
A practical checklist for transparent backgrounds, consistent characters, fixed props and clean animation loops.

Check transparency on more than white
A white background can hide a white rectangle around a character. Preview a sprite on both a dark surface and a light surface. Check the spaces between arms, legs and props as well as the outside outline. A checkerboard drawn into an image is not transparency.
Keep the prop on the same side
Door-peek animations are a useful stress test. In our production trials, a door changing orientation halfway through caused a visible jump even when the character looked consistent. Faster playback could not correct the underlying frames. Watch the hinges, handle and which side the head appears on.
Inspect the loop boundary
Watch the last frame return to the first. The character should not suddenly change size, position or clothing. Eight frames over 1.5 seconds provide about 5.3 distinct frames per second. Changing the timer does not create new poses; a convincing loop needs a coherent movement sequence.
Separate web previews from installation tests
The website can map mouse directions to selected animations. An installed pet is controlled by its desktop client, so the same mouse gestures are not guaranteed to trigger the same animation. Review the art in the browser, then verify installation and behavior in your own client.
